Full-Stack Web Developer, OU Analyse

Our team is looking for a Full-Stack Web Developer to join the OU Analyse team.

The role assists with researching, designing, prototyping and putting into practice novel scalable solutions to help students with their learning. OU Analyse is an early alert system, powered by Machine Learning, which is used at The Open University for the identification of students at risk of failing in their courses and for reducing existing awarding gaps, with the overall objective of improving the retention of our students.

The system is currently used by 28% of all Associate Lectures at The Open University (OU), and our aim is to increase uptake by 10% yearly during the next three years.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be part of an impactful innovation project, working alongside a well-established and creative research and development team.

Skills and experience required:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Suitable experience in of hands-on experience in programming; Front-end/Back-end/Full-stack web development.
  • Very good knowledge of Object-Oriented Languages.
  • Very good knowledge and experience of databases (MySQL or SQL).
  • Knowledge of Java, JavaScript and Python (R as an advantage).
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Contributing to code reviews and experience in working with a versioning system (e.g. GIT).
  • Knowledge of the Linux environment and DevOps, being able to test solutions in the testing environment and deploy/maintain them in the production environments.
  • Ability to independently and proactively define solvable solutions to problems.
  • Ability to communicate with different stakeholders and explain complex concepts
