Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate level in the area of Human-Centered Learning Technologies in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the Peabody College of Education and Human Development. The faculty member will be a core participant in LIVE, Vanderbilt’s interdisciplinary learning innovation research hub, and teach in our new graduate certificates on Emerging Learning Technologies and AI and/or Learning Analytics.

We seek candidates with a strong program of research focused on how emerging technologies (especially artificial intelligence, learning analytics, machine learning, immersive technologies and/or natural language processing) can support and enhance learning and teaching across diverse contexts and populations. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in applying human-centered design principles and methods to create engaging and effective learning experiences that meet the needs of individuals and communities, are informed by theory and evidence, and adopt an ethos of responsibility for both intended and unintended impacts on different populations of learners. The search committee seeks a diverse applicant pool and candidates from a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds with a commitment to innovation, impact and interdisciplinary collaboration as well as working with the increasingly diverse communities of Vanderbilt University and the city of Nashville.

The successful candidate will join dynamic and interdisciplinary faculty across Vanderbilt that are committed to advancing research and practice in the design, development, and evaluation of innovative learning environments that promote human development and flourishing at individual, collective and societal levels.

Qualifications

● A doctoral degree in Learning Sciences, Computer Science, Educational Psychology, Cognitive Science, Educational Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, Information Science or a related field by the time of appointment

● A record of high-quality innovative research on the design and/or use of learning technologies in schools, higher education, workplace or informal learning contexts as evidenced through publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

● Record of, or potential for, securing external funding to support research and development activities

● Commitment to ethics, diversity, equity, inclusion, social implications and justice in education

● Excellence in teaching and mentoring students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

● Engagement with mechanisms to generate real-world impact with learning technologies such as community / corporate partnerships, open-source release or licensing agreements

● Capacity and enthusiasm for engaging thoughtfully with researchers and scholars from a wide range of cultural, disciplinary, and academic backgrounds
