The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (W 1) for Adaptive Teaching and Learning with Digital Tools at the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology to commence as soon as possible.
The position is initially limited to four years, with the possibility of extension by a further two years after a positive interim evaluation.
The successful candidate will conduct research on Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED), preferably with a focus on adaptive learning processes with intelligent tutoring systems in the field of second language acquisition. We would like the successful candidate to actively engage in the development of digital tools as well as the systematic evaluation of modern digital media for classroom usage. The position will be part of a digital education hub within the Hector Research Institute that comprises learning analytics, development and evaluation of virtual reality (VR) applications, and research on programming skills. Intensive collaboration with other members of the institute as well as colleagues at the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network and the Tübingen Center for Digital Education is expected.
The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation and six hours thereafter. The professorship will be involved in the following study programs: Bachelor and Master of Education Science and Psychology, and the training of students in teaching-degree programs (Lehramt). In addition, the successful candidate would ideally also participate in offering interdisciplinary courses in the field of AIED.
Required qualifications include a very good doctorate degree in a pertinent field (psychology, education science, cognitive science, or a related discipline such as computational linguistics, computer science, or machine learning), conference contributions and/or publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, a successful record of third-party funding applications, as well as teaching experience. In the course of the contract, the W1 professor is expected to attain the research and teaching achievements that will qualify him or her for an appointment as a tenured professor at any university or equivalent institution (Habilitation).
