Job summary
The EdTech Labs in the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering are seeking to recruit a Data Analyst to provide educational analytics support across both faculties.

We are looking for a problem solver who has experience extracting and modelling data from large datasets and producing useful and considered insights, using visualisation software such as Power BI, to support decision making. If you’re a good communicator, passionate about data and would like to be involved in Learning Analytics within Education, this is your opportunity.

The role will support the development of institution-wide data and analytics capabilities, which will facilitate the evaluation of innovations in teaching, learning and assessment, and an expansion of education research in the College. The post supports the larger objectives of the EdTech Labs and the College-wide initiatives to deliver an improved student experience.

Duties and responsibilities
Working closely with the faculty Education Insight and Evaluation Analysts, you will develop ways of working with data to meet the strategic aims of both faculties based on a sound understanding of educational requirements and the business implications. Building collaborative relationships and working effectively with other data analysts across the College will be vital for success in this role.

You will

  • investigate, interpret, validate and clean data from digital learning platforms
  • support the integration of administrative datasets that are managed by academic departments, for use in learning analytics
  • develop data analyses and visualisations for edtech reporting, educational, evaluation and research purposes
  • support the data engineering and modelling required

Essential requirements

  • Experience of managing data in a medium or large organisation covering infrastructure, data warehousing/data repositories, software engineering and business intelligence.
  • Experience of identifying and undertaking data analysis within a complex technological environment, extracting meaningful insights from the data.
  • Professional experience in research or a data analytics position in higher education and using related products and programming languages and file types (e.g. PowerBI, PySpark, Python, SQL, R, XML/XSD).
  • Knowledge of a broad range of current and emerging ICT technologies and business processes, delivery models, principles and practice, including data security principles and options, entity relationship modelling and dimensional modelling and Data Flow Mapping and Business Process Modelling.
  • Strong written and effective verbal communication skills and a proven ability to analyse large datasets.
  • Report writing, project management and time management skills, and the ability to perform proof of concept or prototyping exercise.

This is a fulltime fixed-term appointment for 12 months.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
