Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Educational Data Science

Applications are invited for appointment at Simon Fraser University for a postdoctoral fellow in data science education and research. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases (conceptualization, design, implementation, analysis, and publication) of user studies using a computer-based learning environment designed to collect learning data as students solve data science problems.

Description of requirements for the position:

  • PhD (or be close to completing a doctoral degree) in Computer Science, Information Science, Learning Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related fields.
  • Experience with planning, coordinating, and conducting educational research studies using computer-based learning environments.
  • Experience in education data mining/analytics, machine learning, AI, and statistics. Practical experience conceptualizing and implementing complex analytical models using machine learning and data mining methodologies which learn from user behavior.
  • Ability to program an entire data analysis workflow (e.g., data understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation, deployment, communication).
  • Experience with data analytics toolsets (e.g., R) and standard data science packages and methodologies (e.g., Scikit-learn, Tensorflow).
  • Strong track record of research publications in journals and conferences.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

 

This position is funded by the Canada Research Chairs Program. This position will be supervised by Dr. Tenzin Doleck. The appointment is for a one-year term. Please note that this is a full-time position based in Burnaby, BC, Canada, and the successful applicant must be eligible to work in Canada.
