Postdoctoral researcher position (m/f/d)
 (Full-time 100%, Salary: TV-L 13)

We offer: 1 Postdoctoral researcher position for two years and a half (31 months) in the research group “Computational Methods in Modeling and Analysis of Learning Processes” (Informatische Methoden in der Modellierung und Analyse von Lernprozessen) at the Department of Computer Science and Applied Cognitive Science, University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), with a focus on:

Artificial Intelligence in Education and Student Modeling
This position is funded through the Horizon Research and Innovation Action project “augMENTOR: Augmented Intelligence for Pedagogically Sustained Training and Education.” The UDE research team, led by Prof. Dr. Irene-Angelica Chounta, will work with the project consortium towards eliciting user and technical requirements for an AI-enhanced learning platform and will be responsible for designing a computational learner reference profile for modeling 21st century and cognitive skills. This project aims to leverage advancements in Pedagogical Design, Creative Pedagogy, Explainable Artificial Intelligence, and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning for instructional purposes.

Responsibilities:
We expect the Postdoctoral Researcher to be able to take a leadership role in research activities including requirements’ elicitation, participatory design and user (student) modeling, as well as writing of scientific reports. This role includes traveling (mainly within Europe) for data collection and project-related meetings. The Postdoctoral Researcher will support the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate researchers on the project team. They will also have opportunities to pursue their own line of interest within the study.

This position is a full-time, in-person, 2-year and a half (31-month), with the possibility of 1 year extension. Ideal start date is June 1st, 2023, with some flexibility.

Requirements:
Earned Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related field before start date. Candidates with background in Cognitive Psychology or Learning Scientists with technical skills (programming) will also be considered.
Very good knowledge of English.

Helpful prior knowledge/expertise:
In-depth knowledge of quantitative research methods (preferably R)
Machine learning, network analysis and data mining
Programming experience (preferably Python)
